West Ardsley Village

Just to let you know there will be no training band on Saturday 2nd March, training band will be back the week after 9th March 10am – 11.30am.

For any one of any age who would like to learn a brass instrument

We are excited to let you know that West Ardsley action group along with the In bloom group have organised a big spring clean in West Ardsley in partnership with Keep Britian Tidy #GBSpringClean

We will be meeting at various locations around the village to do litter picks We are being supported by the Leeds City Coucil cleansing team who have already said they will take away all the rubbish we have gathered. And refreshments and extra bodies are being supplied by CocaCola!

We are doing this on Sunday 24th March 2019 between 11am and 3pm #LitterHeroes

We can now confirm that at 11am we will be meeting at 3 seperate points- The Reservoir car park, Hilltop School Carpark and the Hare and hounds public house.

There will also be a meeting point at the Methodist Church on haighmoor Rd at 11.45am

If you would like to take part but are unable to make it to a please consider doing a mini pick in your own street or just outside your 0wn front door, every bit of rubbish binned is one less piece on the floor of our streets.

Did you know that Tingley boasts its very own brass band?

They are currently fourth section and are looking for new players of any ability, they rehearse on a Tuesday evening at 7.30pm at Tingley Community centre (Blackgates School) NB they are not currently rehearsing on a Thursday

They also run a training group for people who would like to learn a Brass intrustment, so you can come along any age, they do recomend that children have they grown up front teeth – the session is each Saturday morning 10am-11.30am

The WAAG committee were joined by Andrea Jenkyns, our MP and her assistent Stephano last night. Andrea wanted to know how the Haigh Wood fight was going and if there was any thing further she could do to help in her capacity of member of Parliment.

Andrea said how lovely she thought the area was and spoke fondly of the Wood land walk that she joined the community in last year,

Andrea Also bought the West Ardsley In Bloom group 2 baby sapling trees, one Rowan and the other Hazel, these babies are a gift from the Queens Commonwealth Canopy. We hope they grow tall and stong in the years to come.

Andrea has a petition on her own web site currently asking for additional resources to be put into the police forces around the area, please do have a look and sign if you feel this is an issue that effects you or your neighbourhood.

Do you that know we are creating a community garden at the Crescent this spring?

We’ve received a grant from the Woodlands trust, and hot on the heels of our move to compostable cups we are looking to upcycle plastic by using Ecobricks that YOU have made to build the walls and structures, so over Christmas please stuff plastic bottles with all your plastic wrappers (clean and dry).
As a community we can keep so much plastic out of landfill and oceans by getting on board with the Ecobrick revolution.

Wow we got wet today!

A very enthusiastic group of volunteers met at the community centre this afternoon and they were joined by Gav and Ellie from EverGreen Contractors and their wonderful little digger. Many pockets of earth were dug and many many daffodil bulbs were planted.

The bulb planting journey must continue as we still are not yet done! Thursday morning 15th November 2018 we are hoping to finish Baghill and then we will be arranging to plant the green area on Westerton Road

Our youngest helpers did a grand job of litter picking the lane whilst we were there, thanks Boys.

    

Then that will be the end of stage one of West Ardsley in Bloom big plan! stage 2 to follow shortly

A massive thank you to all those who have been helping with the #BigBulbPlant in the village, the group started last week and a huge thanks to Eddy and Joby for saving our backs by digging a beautiful trench along Baghill. we aslo had some of our smaller helpers tackle the border at the side of the community centre and the lane running to back Haighmoor Rd. We are really looking forward to seeing ribbons of yellow in the spring.

Baghill is almost finished and we will be doing the rest next Saturday, 10th November 2018, meeting at the community centre at 1pm if you would like to offer half an hour of help please. we still have a lot of daffodil bulbs to get in before the weather is too chilly

Please dress for the weather and bring  spade or trowel- we will be working at the road side so not suitable for small children, the in bloom group have some hi vis vests for use by volunteers,

Update for West Ardsley Community Group from Councillors Lisa Mulherin, Ben Garner and Karen Renshaw, your local City Councillors for Ardsley and Robin Hood ward.

Firstly please accept our apologies for not being able to attend the meeting (9th October 2018 West Ardsley Action Group) on this occasion.  We would be very happy to take up issues working with the West Ardsley Community Group following the meeting and in the meantime we thought a quick written update on some of the work we’ve been doing for West Ardsley since the last meeting might be helpful.

On the Site Allocations Plan, Cllr Mulherin and Cllr Renshaw attended the hearing in relation to West Ardsley.  The inspectors have very recently issued a post-hearing note and a further response, which together provide interim views on areas of land identified as “broad locations” and finds that these should remain as green belt.  This is good news locally for the sites by the reservoir car park off Haigh Moor Rd and Westerton Rd towards the reservoir.  The inspectors have not yet given any indication of their views on the sites like ones around Haigh Wood that had been put forward for housing.  The indication is that we will hear more about these sites later in October or perhaps November.  What the inspectors have indicated is that if they modify the plan for any of these sites they would expect the Council to provide alternative sites in the same Housing Market Characteristic area.

At the last meeting, there were concerns about anti-social behaviour and people starting fires around the reservoir and the field behind Hilltop Academy.  Cllr Mulherin took this up with the Police and the Council’s Youth Service.  Arrangements were made for information sessions to be delivered at all of the local youth groups in the ward over the summer about the risks and dangers of starting fires and these sessions were successfully delivered by the West Yorkshire Fire Service working alongside the Council’s Youth workers.  The PCSOs and Youth Workers also visited the areas affected to engage with any young people gathering.

Councillor Renshaw attended the defibrillator launch at the Hare and Hounds, alongside community fundraiser Cody Hartley. It is great to see this fantastic resource in the village and we hope that as many local residents as possible will take the opportunity to take up the training on how to use it.

Councillor Garner and Councillor Renshaw thoroughly enjoyed the first meeting of the West Ardsley In Bloom group.  We have been in email correspondence with the group and with Richard Gill since to discuss options for funding a bench to go alongside one of the areas that the group are intending to plant.  The Council is to provide spring bulbs to get the group started.

We have added our support to the call to ensure that Haigh Moor Road is included in the West Ardsley 20mph zone and have placed an order for the location of a Speed Indication Device on Batley Road.

On a final note, we have met with West Yorkshire Combined Authority to call for improvements to bus services in West Ardsley.  We have made it clear how disappointed we are alongside local residents that the bus companies have paid no heed to the consultation that was carried out by WYCA and the bus companies last year and we are demanding a better service. We hope this is a helpful update and we look forward to seeing you soon for bulb planting if not before!
